What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a minimally invasive treatment in which a Cornerstone Acupuncture Institute specialist inserts thin needles into predetermined points throughout your body. Traditional Korean Medicine maintains that there are more than 350 acupuncture points in the human body that can treat different symptoms and medical illnesses.

Why should I try acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been proven to promote relaxation and relieve pain throughout the body. In fact, acupuncture can help improve the pain and side effects of:
Headaches
Neck pain
Back pain
Shoulder pain
Sciatica
Joint pain
Arthritis
Jaw pain and TMJ pain
Spinal disorders
Sport injuries
Other chronic pain related symptoms

How does acupuncture work?

Before you begin your acupuncture treatment, the team at Cornerstone Acupuncture Institute looks over your medical history and analyzes previous medical records including imaging studies that have been causing you pain or discomfort.

To better determine the right treatment plan for you, they also ask questions about your symptoms, lifestyle, and diet. This initial evaluation, which gives the team the information they need to develop your individualized treatment plan, can take up to 30 minutes.

At your next appointment, the team inserts hair-thin needles into predetermined acupuncture points throughout your body.

Where the needles are inserted depends entirely on your unique plan. The team may insert the needles close to your area of pain, or further away, but your practitioner always walks you through the plan before getting started.

The team may gently twirl or manipulate the needles for stimulation, but the process should not be painful. Most patients experience a mild pinch or sting when their needles are first inserted but notify your acupuncturist right away if these symptoms don’t subside during the session.

After your initial consultation, each acupuncture appointment takes approximately 20-30 minutes. While most patients feel refreshed and relaxed after their sessions, contact the Cornerstone Acupuncture Institute team right away if you experience nausea, dizziness, fainting, or skin rashes following your treatment.
